Commercial Plumbing Myths

As a business owner or manager, chances are that you either have or will face a commercial plumbing issue. Luckily, here at All Ways Drains, we offer commercial plumbing to New Brighton and the surrounding Twin Cities area!

As experts in commercial plumbing, we want to make sure that you are aware of a few common commercial plumbing myths. These myths not only aren’t true, but they can cause further, expensive damage when believed. If in doubt, if you notice something off with your plumbing, give us a call as soon as possible!

As long as it’s draining, it’s okay.

Unfortunately, complete clogs aren’t the only sign of a plumbing issue. Your drains can still drain while other signs indicate that you need a commercial plumber. Even just a slowing drain is a good indication that there’s a problem and that a fully clogged drain is right around the corner.

As is the case with most plumbing issues, clogged drains are easier to solve when caught early. Regular drain cleaning can prevent any unexpected clogs from arising and disrupting your business.

Slow leaks aren’t a big issue.

Since slow or small leaks don’t look bad, many think they aren’t a big deal. However, a small or slow leak can easily become a large and fast leak, which can cause water damage and require more expensive repairs.

Plus, even just one small leak increases your water usage and therefore your water bills. But, if you have multiple small or slow leaks, your water bill can skyrocket. When you notice a leak, no matter the size or speed, the best option is to call a plumber to come fix the issue right away.

Soap should be used to clean plumbing.

Just because soap is a great cleaner for hands and skin, doesn’t mean it was designed for all types of cleaning. Regular soap wasn’t designed to clean plumbing fixtures, so it’s always a better bet to use the appropriate specialized commercial cleaner to ensure the longevity of your plumbing fixtures!

Anything can be flushed.

While this isn’t only a commercial plumbing myth, many fall into the trap of believing that if something flushes, it can be flushed without issue. However, in a commercial setting where customers are using the restroom, this can become an even more dangerous mindset.

When you flush something that isn’t meant to be flushed, you can cause blockages and other issues within your plumbing and sewer systems. While there’s no way to ensure that customers don’t flush things not meant to be flushed, you can encourage them not to with signs identifying what is safe to flush and trash cans near each toilet.

Any plumber can handle the repairs.

Every reputable plumber should be trained in basic plumbing skills, but that doesn’t mean that just any plumber can perform the work to the same quality. When you have a commercial plumbing issue, you want a plumber who is well-versed in local codes and regulations and who has worked on similar issues in the past.
